Rita McBride. Public Tender

Rita McBride, Arena

Solo exhibition at MACBA in which Rita McBride turned the museum itself into part of her sculptural process, stripping away the temporary walls, skylight coverings and door closures added to Richard Meier's original building over its first seventeen years.

Rita McBride. Public Tender ran at MACBA from 18 May to 24 September 2012. For the exhibition the artist intervened directly in the building, removing most of the temporary walls, skylight coverings and door closures added to Richard Meier's original design since the museum opened, so that the architecture became a further element in her sculptural process. McBride's work addresses the production of public space and the reception of culture through sculptures that recreate familiar elements of the built environment. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue co-published by MACBA, with a presentation by Bartomeu Marí and texts by Luis Fernández-Galiano and Mark Wigley.
