Basel Abbas & Ruanne Abou-Rahme. Prisoners of Love: Until the Sun of Freedom

Basel Abbas & Ruanne Abou-Rahme. Prisoners of Love: Until the Sun of Freedom

First solo exhibition in Spain by the Palestinian collaborators. Audiovisual ode to resistance — collecting, sampling and layering of found and self-produced materials exploring memory, dispossession, and political struggle.

The first solo exhibition in Spain by Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, curated by Hiuwai Chu, on view at MACBA from 13 February to 28 September 2026. Its central work is the eponymous audiovisual installation, based on research into the resilience of Palestinian prisoners through song and poetry. The installation was reworked for the MACBA presentation and is co-produced with Nottingham Contemporary, The Bell/Brown Arts Institute at Brown University and Kunstinstituut Melly. Around this piece the exhibition gathers earlier works that trace almost two decades of the artists' collaborative practice, marked by a sustained engagement with the poetics and politics of memory and with struggles against dispossession and oppression in Palestine and beyond.
