Charlotte Posenenske. Work in Progress
Adaptation for MACBA of the Dia Art Foundation retrospective of the German artist who abandoned art in 1968 to pursue sociology.
Work in Progress was the first comprehensive retrospective of Charlotte Posenenske, on view at MACBA from 18 October 2019 to 8 March 2020. Organised by the Dia Art Foundation, it was presented at MACBA by Hiuwai Chu with the Dia curators Jessica Morgan and Alexis Lowry. The exhibition traced a practice that moved between Minimalism and Conceptualism, from early drawings and paintings to aluminium wall reliefs and the modular sculptures for which Posenenske is best known. Using industrial materials and serial repetition, Posenenske offered her works at the cost of production and in unlimited editions, refusing the logic of the art market. In 1968 she abandoned art to work as a sociologist. The retrospective travelled from Dia:Beacon to MACBA, K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf and Mudam Luxembourg.
