The Artist as Collector

The Artist as Collector (Der Künstler als Sammler) was a talk by Hiuwai Chu given in connection with the exhibition Akram Zaatari. Against Photography: An Annotated History of the Arab Image Foundation, which she curated. The exhibition was on view at K21, Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf from 18 November 2017 to 25 February 2018. The talk took Zaatari's work and the holdings of the Arab Image Foundation as a way to consider the figure of the artist who collects, and how that practice reshapes provenance, preservation and authorship.
