Catalan Pavilion, La Biennale di Venezia — first edition

Catalan Pavilion — La Comunitat Inconfessable, 53rd Venice Biennale, 2009 (installation view), Magazzini del Sale
Institut Ramon Llull

Catalonia's first official representation at the Venice Biennale, presented at the 53rd edition in 2009. Titled The Unavowable Community (La Comunitat Inconfessable) and curated by Valentín Roma, it brought together Daniel G. Andújar, Pedro G. Romero and Sitesize.

The Catalan Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009) was Catalonia's first participation with its own pavilion. The project, The Unavowable Community (La Comunitat Inconfessable), curated by Valentín Roma, took its title from the book by Maurice Blanchot and was shown at the Magazzini del Sale in Dorsoduro. It brought together three practices working with archives and community: Technologies to the People (Daniel G. Andújar), Archivo F.X. (Pedro G. Romero) and the collective Sitesize. Hiuwai Chu worked on the pavilion as coordinator.
