Santiago Ramón y Cajal

Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852–1934) was a Spanish neuroscientist and histologist who founded the neuron doctrine and received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1906. His more than 3,000 drawings of neural tissue - made with exceptional artistic skill - remain in scientific and educational use today, and have been exhibited as works of art in their own right.
