Lothar Baumgarten
German conceptual artist. Studied under Joseph Beuys at the Düsseldorf Kunstakademie. Lived for eighteen months (1978–80) with the Yãnomãmi in the upper Orinoco, producing work that addressed Indigenous knowledge and European projection. Awarded the Golden Lion at the 41st Venice Biennale (1984) for the German Pavilion. Died in Berlin in 2018.
