British artist and filmmakers' collective active from 1982 to 1998, comprising John Akomfrah, Reece Auguiste, Edward George, Lina Gopaul, Avril Johnson, David Lawson and Trevor Mathison. Formed at Portsmouth Polytechnic, the group's 1986 film Handsworth Songs – on the uprisings in Birmingham and London – won the BFI John Grierson Award.
